Barackson Penelope Obama
Lazy, it's a video game cmon
Flumbonpascility
@Barackson Penelope Obama: yeah, what’s your point?
If it’s cause he doesn’t want to make an ugly blocky or gap-filled terrain using maker pen shapes then what’s the issue, also why are you here? Every other feature request I’ve seen you in, you’ve always been so negative and hateful towards the ideas.
Barackson Penelope Obama
God damn, chill, if you put actual effort into your maps then it won't be filled with gaps . It's my life to live, fuck off
Flumbonpascility
@Barackson Penelope Obama: alright then I’ll let you be, also I also mentioned it being blocky and ugly and I dont know why you’re telling me to chill when you’re the one whose swearing.

Noise Map Chip for terrain generation
h
This chip would have 4 inputs (generate, seed, x, y) and 1 output (value).
It would generate a random noise map using the seed (use a random seed if the seed is 0) and output the value at x and y in the noise map.
Or, it would alternatively have 2 inputs (generate, seed) and would output a nested list of all the values in the noise map
HarryPorpise
Quick question, what use would Perlin Noise have in rec room? I can’t think of anything that could use this.
h
@HarryPorpise: Terrain generation, useless maps, cool effects, etc
Joker
I'm unfamiliar with what a noise map is. Please explain this some more.
h
@Joker: Let's say you want to create a random terrain generator that generates a hills and valleys, and you want the hills and valleys to be smooth. You would use a noise map instead of calculating a random height value for each tile (what the hills and valleys are made up of). Why? Because if you calculate a random value for each tile, you would get a garbled mess! With noise maps, you would get smooth hills and valleys.
*by "noise maps" I mean perlin noise
Joker
@h: Terrain generation is planned. Why are you asking for this as a chip? Would a tool to generate a terrain once not be enough?
h
@Joker: This chip could be used for other things. Also, I was talking about procedural terrain generation (that would be done with circuits), not just pre-determined terrain.
Pancake992
@h: u mean simplex or Perlin noise? Cause noise is just that stuff you would see on old TVs when no signal(not smooth)

A chip would be good for a game where in every server the terrain is different

A map editor
CrispyChickenNugget
Make a editor so we can easily add hills, caves and more, when you start the editor you get teleported to another room and then you just get a flat green plate. You can edit this plate and make select where you want to edit the grounded, and you can also select which color you want for what places. Once you are done you get teleported back to the room you were in and you can place the ground
Flumbonpascility
The way for me to see this as a way to use it in VR is having a secondary application that would allow you to sculpt the land and send it as a room to your Rec Room account to use in game
